How do I get my knives sharpened by Valley Sharp?
We offer three convenient ways to restore your edges:
1. Mobile Service: We bring our workshop to your home or business in Cle Elum, Roslyn, Suncadia and Seattle. Book a mobile appointment here.
2. Local Drop-Off: Drop your knives at our partner location, The Grazing Table on 4th in Ellensburg. Click here for store hours and location.
3. Sharpening Events: Sign up for a sharpening day at The Book Larder in Fremont or The Pantry in Ballard. Check the events calendar here.
4. Mail-In Service: Ship your knives directly to our workshop from anywhere in the US. We sharpen and return them via insured shipping. Email darin@valleysharp.com for mailing address
-
Can I ship dull knives to you for sharpening service?
Yes. We offer a nationwide mail-in service favored by chefs who want their specific edge geometry preserved.
How to pack: Create a "cardboard sandwich" by folding cardboard over the edge and taping it securely, or use edge guards. Wrap knives tightly in bubble wrap so they do not move inside the box.
Where to ship: Please email darin@valleysharp.com for shipping address.
-
How long does knife sharpening take?
Mobile/On-Site: We typically sharpen your items while you wait or within a few hours.
Drop-Off: Standard turnaround is 24-48 hours depending on volume.
Mail-In: We aim to sharpen and ship back within 2 business days of receipt.

How do I contact you about a mobile sharpening opportunity?
If you would like Valley Sharp to visit your neighborhood, farmers market, or culinary event in the Roslyn/Cle Elum/Suncadia area or Greater Seattle, please email us directly at darin@valleysharp.com
-
Is all of your sharpening done in-house?
100%. Unlike retail stores that may outsource to large industrial grinders, every blade at Valley Sharp is handled personally by Darin Gagner to ensure the heat treatment and geometry are respected.
-
Do you have loaner knives available when I schedule knife sharpening?
For our commercial restaurant partners on a rotation schedule, we can arrange loaners. For home cooks, our turnaround time is designed to be fast enough that you won’t miss your blades!
-
Can serrated knives be sharpened?
Absolutely. Many people believe serrated knives are disposable, but they are not. We sharpen the individual gullets (teeth) to restore their slicing ability. We can fix bread knives, steak knives, and serrated utility blades.
-
Can I trust you to sharpen my favorite sewing shears?
Fabric shears require a distinct edge angle and tension adjustment to cut cleanly without “folding” the fabric. We test all shears on textile samples before they are returned to you.
-
Do you sharpen professional shears?
Yes, we service hair shears and professional grooming scissors, ensuring the convex edge and ride lines are perfectly honed for smooth operation.
-
Can you sharpen restaurant knives?
Yes! Valley Sharp was founded by a chef, for chefs. We understand the high-volume demands of a commercial kitchen. We offer bulk rates and scheduled maintenance for restaurants in Kittitas County and select Seattle neighborhoods.
-
Can you sharpen my chainsaw?
No. We specialize in fine cutlery, culinary tools, craft scissors and shears. We do not service gas-powered machinery or chainsaw chains.
-
Do you teach knife sharpening classes?
Yes! Darin is a passionate instructor who believes knife maintenance is a vital culinary skill. He regularly teaches sharpening workshops at The Pantry in Ballard, The Book Larder in Fremont, and occasionally hosts private pop-up classes. Check our events page for upcoming dates.
-
Do you offer private knife sharpening instruction?
Yes. If you prefer 1-on-1 coaching to master the whetstone, Darin offers private instruction for individuals or small groups (kitchen staff/brigades). Inquire via email for rates.
